We, in a very small way, have been a part of many truly amazing weddings and every now and then we're lucky to see the highlights when these dream days are showcased on sites like www.lovemydress.net.  Our customers seem to have a fantastic eye for detail so its no surprise that many of them are designers and creative types hence they've achieved some gorgeous, unique DIY weddings.

Here's a few of our favs for your viewing pleasure.

This amazing, rustic tipi wedding enjoys some stunning natural flavours as well as being very on trend with lots of lush greenery, tweed suits and beautiful dresses.  Pizzas are always a great quirky touch for a wedding and saves many a hangover so a winner with your guests.  Note the brides top tip to be organised if you're doing a DIY wedding and invest in a wedding co-ordinator for the day.

Some of my favourite features of this wedding day have to be the ultra cool 2 piece wedding dress and the groom's switch from tie by day and bow tie by night.  So simple yet so effective to show the party is on!  Annnnnd, the venue is lush!

“We wanted the day to feel laid back and informal, like a party we’d throw at home but of course on a much bigger scale! We shied away from any set styling themes or colours, and tried to create everything we possibly could ourselves. Our guests were also at the forefront of our minds – most of our big decisions centred around making things cosy, entertaining…”

Any wedding that has a cake table, hand illustrated place settings and such a happy couple has got to be a winner! The bride had this bit of advice about bucking the trend and enjoying the chance to speak straight to her guests:

“I know it’s scary, but if you can, do a speech. I think it’s so important that women don’t just let their new husband speak for them. Personally, I really wanted to thank all my guests from the bottom of my heart for being there, and also to say a few words to Nick in front of everyone, as it’s something that you so rarely get the opportunity to do.”

Sometimes a venue is so stunning it can do most of the work for your in terms of dressing your big day.  This fab couple put their own stamp on a classic backdrop with amazing floral displays, quirky grey bridesmaids dresses and some wonderful handmade touches. The bride knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go off the beaten path to achieve this:

“After being unable to find quite the right dress locally, I ended up designing my own and had it made at Camilla Brides in Norwich. My dream style of something ethereal with a flowing skirt was really hard to find so decided to find a seamstress and went from there."

When both couples are designers (and one a calligrapher) you know you're in for a visual treat and something a little different.  Beautifully hand painted signage, mismatched tea sets, mismatched bow ties and a fab floral wedding dress make this an inspiration look book for a DIY wedding.  The bride has some wise words I couldn't have said better myself:

“Research, internet is your best friend. However, don’t get caught with other people’s opinions. This is yours and your partner’s day. Do wear and eat whatever your heart tells you to. Don’t follow protocol; we are not part of the Royal family and everyone attending your wedding will be there because they love you – they don’t need formalities or fancy stuff.”

Interestingly, something all these couples have in common is the desire for a "laid back" day that reflects their personal tastes as well as their love for each other and their guests.  That's my sort of wedding.

Keep your eyes peeled for our guide to a DIY wedding....not for the faint hearted but so worth it as you can see from these amazing weddings!!
